Silver Plated Flatware
Flatware refers to utensils like forks, spoons, knives, and other tools used for serving and eating food. Silver-plated flatware gained popularity in the mid-19th century with the advent of electroplating techniques.
Silver Plated Hollowware
Silver-Plated Holloware refers to serving items and tableware, including pieces like sugar bowls, teapots, pitchers, butter dishes, creamers, and more.
What Is Silver Plate?
Silver plate involves electroplating a very thin layer of silver onto a base metal. The most commonly used base metals for this process are brass, nickel, tin, or copper.
How Can I Tell If My Item Is Silver Plated?
You can often find markings on the bottom of your piece that indicate whether it is silver-plated. Look for terms like "Silver-plated", "EPNS" (electroplated nickel silver), or "EP" (electroplated). These markings identify silver-plated items, which we are interested in purchasing.

Another way to determine if an item is silver-plated rather than steel is by testing it with a magnet. If the magnet sticks, it's generally not worth sending these materials. However, if the magnet does not stick, the item is likely silver-plated and can be sent.

An exception to this rule is with silver-plated knives, which often have a steel component inside to secure the handle and blade. If your silver-plated knife is magnetic, it is still acceptable to send.
